pharmaceuticals company, members of different electronic & print media, Ladies & Gentleman
Assalamualaikum & a very good morning to all of you.
On behalf of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society, it is indeed a great pleaser, honor and privilege for me
to welcome all of you in this "9th Annual National Conference" of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society
on 24 November, Saturday 2018 at the Seagull Hotel, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
Dear delegates & participants:
Bangladesh Glaucoma Society started it's journey on November 2007. Since then we are arranging
our Annual National Conference regularly, in addition we have arranged 1st and 2nd International
Glaucoma meeting at Dhaka.
This is the first time we have arranged this 9th Annual National Conference outside the capital city of Dhaka.
Current Executive committee of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society (BGS) took it's responsibility on 31st January, 2018. Since then we are arranging the CME program at and outside Dhaka. We are holding regular Executive committee meeting for running the society smoothly. This year (2018) we have observed the world glaucoma week and day from 11th to 17th March throughout the country. We have participated in TV talk show, free Glaucoma screening camp, colorful rally, Press conference and distribution of posters in different hospital and institutes to make the awareness among the doctors, paramedics and overall the general people of the community so that they know more about what is Glaucoma. We are very much thankful to all ophthalmologist and hospital authorities in Dhaka and outside of Dhaka who helped us to observe the world glaucoma week and day.
Scientific presentation, symposium, instruction course, medical and surgical management of
glaucoma will be the main attraction for the success of the conference.
Thanks to all the speakers from home and abroad specially 1) Dr. Jayant Venkatramani lyer from
Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore and 2) Dr. Mona Khurana from Sankara Nethralaya,
Chennai, India. Their participations will help to enrich our knowledge of understanding of
glaucoma.
I am grateful to those who gave their valuable time to make this conference success in the best
possible way. I am thankful to authors who gave their scientific paper for publication in the BGS
journal.

Glaucoma is one of the delicate ophthalmic problem to be handle. This conference will help us to
be acquainted with the current standards of diagnostic tools and management of glaucoma.
My personal gratitude to all honorable advisors for their kind cooperation. Special thanks to Prof.
Sk. M. A. Mannaf, Advisor, Bangladesh Glaucoma Society (BGS) for his tremendous backup
support to run the society smoothly. I am also thankful to Advisor Prof. M. Nazrul Islam, President
Dr. Muhammad Ziaul Karim, President Elect. Prof. Md. Mizanur Rahman, all the secretaries and
members of EC committee for their support and help.

I hope & pray that during this Conference and post conference Saint Martin tour you will remain
safe, feel comfort and enjoy the natural heritage and beauty of Cox's Bazar and it's Sea beach
which is the longest sea beach of the world and one of the pride of our country.

Bangladesh Glaucoma Society activities 2017
From the desk of Secretary general 2016-2017
Every year we celebrate World Glaucoma Week very nicely with the hope not only celebration but also to make aware all people throughout the country regarding glaucoma. In 2017 we the glaucoma society of Bangladesh has given a good drive against glaucoma throughout the country. We have arranged Free Glaucoma Screening Camp, Colorful Rally distribution of posters in different public places with glaucoma issues. This year we managed to arrange awareness program in about thirty hospitals and eye care centers through out the country. We are very much thankful to all ophthalmologist in Dhaka and in different district hospitals who assisted us in this program. We also arranged Press conference, Symposium, Radio-Television talk, newspapers & magazines publications. At the eleven years of age of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society we think ourselves successful cause now at least people come to us to know whether they are free from glaucoma or not.
We do National & International Conference every alternate year. To vibrate the knowledge, to enrich the skillness of us and our fellows so that we can treat the people with full of confidence. For “ 2nd International Glaucoma Meeting & 8th Annual National Conference “ of Bangladesh Glaucoma Society for last ten months all Members of Executive Committee has worked hard to offer the best possible Glaucoma Conference. This time thirty five Faculties had been spoken in the conference. Dr. Angshuman Das (India), Dr. Parivadhini (India), Dr. JinWook Jeoung (South Korea), Dr. VisaneeTantisevi (Thailand), Dr. Rashed Nizam (USA) who came from abroad to share their knowledge in our Scientific Sessions of About forty eight scientific papers had been presented in the conference. We tried to include topics from all the different aspects of Glaucoma: Memorial Lectures, Symposium, Laser & Surgical management in glaucoma. We have included a new session “Glaucoma Drama” in this conference to have a new taste. There are plenty of opportunity to learn and interchange of knowledge in this conference.
We are trying to prepare a Glaucoma Management protocol. We already had done three Symposiums and Workshops on it. We are giving Glaucoma Training Facilities among the young Ophthalmologists in home and abroad.
We have future planning to make a Modern Glaucoma Hospital & Research Institute in Dhaka and also Glaucoma Survey throughout the country.
Every 6 monthly we publish BGS-Journal and regularly update BGS website. It's a great success for BGS.
Every two years a team of BGS members attends the “World Glaucoma Congress” and other glaucoma meeting. A team of thirty members of BGS has joined WGC in Helsinki on June 2017 last year. There was a symposium of BGS with six speakers who presented there scientific papers are Prof. M Nazrul Islam, Prof. M Mizanur Rahman , Dr.Zakia Sultana Shahid, Dr. M A Karim, Dr. Siddiqur Rahman & Dr. Ruhi Mannan.
